About the KNCV

Our mission

About us

Chemistry and life sciences play a key role in societal transitions in the areas of climate, health, energy, and sustainability. These challenges call for go-getters with practical solutions and pioneers who explore and push the boundaries of our knowledge.

That is why, as KNCV, we strengthen the chemical community in the Netherlands by connecting our members, promoting professional and personal development, and encouraging cross-fertilization between disciplines. We would be pleased to tell you how we do this and what we do.

What we do

A knowledge-rich association

A wide range of sections, circles, and working groups

Together with the circles and working groups, the sections form the professional pillars of the KNCV. As a member of the KNCV, you have access to all events free of charge or with a discount.

The team

Both in front of and behind the scenes, many people are working together to realize the KNCV's mission. The sections form the backbone of the association; they know better than anyone what is going on in the various fields. We would like to introduce these people to you. Without them, there would be no association and we would not be able to serve the chemical community in the Netherlands.

Even more active members

The team consists of many more members who are active within Jong KNCV, our sections, circles, or working groups. You can find them on the website of the relevant section.

Intensive collaboration

As chemical associations, we strengthen each other

We work closely with various associations to identify areas where we can join forces to better serve the chemical sector.

In connection with other associations

We maintain close contact with associations in related fields and institutions. Where relevant, we join forces.

A rich history

The leading association for chemists, life scientists, and process technologists for over 120 years

The KNCV was founded on April 15, 1903, by fellow chemists Willem Jorissen, Jan Rutten, and Lodewijk Reicher. At that time, the association was called the Algemene Nederlandsche Chemische Vereeniging (General Dutch Chemical Association) and had 113 members. Ernst Julius Cohen was the association's first chairman. For history buffs, we have listed the most important facts and milestones.

We are available by phone from Tuesday to Thursday
from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Outside these hours, you can always send us an email, which we will answer as soon as possible.
