Prof. Dr. Yvonne van der Meer
Yvonne van der Meer studied molecular sciences at Wageningen University, specializing in chemistry and biological chemistry, graduating in molecular physics in 1997. She received her PhD in 2001 from Delft University of Technology for her research on structure-function relationships of heterogeneous NiW and CoW catalysts in a collaborative project with Eindhoven University of Technology. From 2001 to 2007, she worked at the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) as a program manager for national and European public-private partnerships in sustainable chemistry. She subsequently became a consultant in the field of sustainable building materials and life cycle assessment at INTRON.
In 2008, Yvonne joined Maastricht University as a policy advisor to the Executive Board and was involved in the establishment of the Brightlands Chemelot Campus. As program leader, she co-founded the research group and the Biobased Materials Master's program. She also co-founded the research institutes Aachen-Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials (AMIBM) and Chemelot Institute for Science and Technology (Chemelot InSciTe). In 2015, she became an associate professor at Maastricht University, where she was appointed professor of Sustainability of Chemicals and Materials at the Faculty of Science and Engineering in 2019. In 2020, she was appointed scientific co-director of AMIBM.
Yvonne has over 20 years of experience in sustainable chemistry and is a researcher passionate about sustainability. She has been a member of the scientific committee of the European Biobased Industries Joint Undertaking since 2017. At Maastricht University, she is Project Owner for Sustainable Research for the Taskforce Sustainable UM2030 and a member of the Sustainability Advisory Group of the York Maastricht Partnership. Since 2020, she has been the scientific coordinator of Biobased Value Circle, a European Marie Skłodowska-Curie Industrial Doctorate program. She is also a member of the Circular Investments, Innovations, and Applications team at the Chemelot Circular Hub and a member of the Brightlands Science Advisory Board.
