Core values for chemists
- A chemist must ensure the safety of themselves, their colleagues and the environment when working with chemical substances and applying chemical knowledge. This responsibility applies not only to their own work, but also to identifying processes that may be harmful to people and/or the environment.
- A chemist contributes, to the best of their ability, to the sustainable use of substances, so that the current use of (raw) materials does not compromise their availability for future use.
- A chemist must adhere to applicable rules, standards and values. This applies not only to their own behaviour. A chemist is expected to identify what they consider to be unethical behaviour on the part of others and to bring this to the attention of the relevant authorities.
