Dr. Annemarie Maan

Hi! I'm Annemarie, and let me get straight to the point: I'm a complete nerd, always have been. My room was always filled with a huge collection of useless gadgets, like silly putty, lava lamps, and bubble blowers (much to my parents' chagrin), until years later I discovered that all these "gadgets" were connected through science, which brought chemistry increasingly to the forefront. In 2013, I therefore decided to study this fascinating science, and in 2019, I was accepted as a PhD student (at the University of Groningen and the University of Twente) to gain even more practical knowledge. While I loved this four-year adventure (and sometimes I didn't), I felt more drawn to the application-oriented industry. So, earlier this year, I joined the Polymer Modification & Recycling team at Nouryon in Deventer, where I primarily focus on optimizing and tailoring plastic recycling procedures. I feel completely at home there!

But: there's always room for more. And just when I was starting to settle in Deventer, Jan-Willem came up with an attractive offer: becoming a KNCV board member. I couldn't refuse, and after sleeping on it, I wholeheartedly said yes! This isn't my first KNCV rodeo, though: as a first-year student, I immediately became a KNCV member, during my PhD I was a board member of Jong KNCV, and my PhD work was immortalized in a cool Eye-Opener video. Now I'm especially eager to start this new KNCV adventure with full energy, and I look forward to meeting you all! Let me kick-start our introduction with a little game: two truths, one lie.

I've played the saxophone since I was nine.
I used to have a pet duck.
I have my own business.
