Prof. F.M. Bickelhaupt
During the General Members' Meeting on 22 June 2023, the KNCV appointed Prof. Matthias Bickelhaupt as Member of Merit.
Professor Matthias Bickelhaupt has supported the KNCV and chemistry in the Netherlands and Europe for many years and has played a key role in the development, cohesion and visibility of the computational and theoretical chemistry community (CTC). In addition, he serves not only computational and theoretical chemistry, but also the chemistry community as a whole through pioneering research and education, outreach activities and collaboration with industry, and various organisational tasks.
Prof. Bickelhaupt is the founding chair of the KNCV CTC section. In 2016-2017, he mobilised the large and strong community to support the establishment of a new KNCV section that represents the CTC and makes it more visible, brings it together, catalyses collaboration and creates opportunities. This led to the official establishment of the KNCV CTC section during the KNCV general meeting (ALV) at CHAINS 2017 in Veldhoven. The new section has lived up to its promise. It coordinates a thriving CTC community with an annual CTC Symposium, a bi-monthly PhD+ Seminar series (for PhD students, postdocs and all other interested parties) and other information channels. The members of the CTC section are highly visible and are not only able to engage in fruitful interactions with other chemists in the Netherlands, but also build connections with colleagues in Belgium, Germany (AGTC) and Europe (EuChemS CTC).
