BioPure makes BioClamp® production sustainable

BioPure, a leading supplier of single-use solutions and part of Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions (WMFTS), has recently made the production of its BioClamp® more sustainable.

In 1998, BioPure introduced the first single-use sanitary BioClamp for the bioprocessing market. Since then, both the design and the production process have been optimized.

The updated BioClamp is 13% lighter than the previous model. Thanks to an advanced automatic assembly process, CO₂ emissions across the entire life cycle have been reduced by 22%.

Efficient production enables competitive prices for bulk orders. The BioClamp ensures reliable attachment of sanitary couplings and is perfect for single-use hoses.

The improved, ergonomic hinge makes the BioClamp easier to close, simplifying the assembly process and allowing hoses to be changed quickly.

Chris Sillitoe, Product Manager at WMFTS, explains: "BioClamp is designed for sustainability and meets the highest quality standards. The improvements relate to production, transport, use in bioprocesses, and disposal at the end of its life. BioClamp is efficiently manufactured, pre-assembled, and packaged in our global network of advanced Class 7 cleanrooms. These facilities are ISO14001 certified and run on renewable energy. This gives users confidence in the quality and sustainability of our sanitary BioClamp when scaling up their production."

Features and benefits

  • The lower weight and optimized production process reduce CO₂ emissions throughout the product's life cycle.
  • Easier assembly thanks to a special locking mechanism.
  • Made from glass fiber reinforced nylon, USP Class VI.
  • Less deformation of polymer joints when exposed to heat.
  • Suitable for sterilization with autoclave and gamma irradiation.
  • Tamper-evident cover available.
  • Suitable for both single-use and multiple-use applications.
  • Security of supply through a global production and supply network.

WMFTS aims to reduce its scope 1 and scope 2 emissions, as well as scope 3 emissions, to zero by 2030. This includes both direct emissions under the company's control and indirect emissions in the value chain. A good example of this is the optimized BioClamp.
