Golden Flame 2019

Winner of the Golden Flame Award 2019

Meike Heideman

Solvent-free coagulation - in a study into the effect of a solvent-free process on product properties, ROC van Twente

This year, the Golden Flame jury nominated Meike Heideman's report, written as part of her internship at Chamlon BV in Ootmarsum for the Operator C program at ROC van Twente, for the Golden Flame 2019.

According to her internship supervisor, Meike did an excellent graduation research project in the final year of her Operator C training. "She has developed crucial new steps in the production process, enabling Chamlon to comply with the new environmental requirements relating to the upcoming REACH legislation. In carrying out the research, she drew up a realistic research plan and conducted the research accurately in close collaboration with all those involved. With this research, the accompanying presentation, and the research report, she has delivered a result that clearly exceeds what is expected of an MBO student."

Her report was clear and well-organized. Her presentation was enjoyable to listen to. She guided the jury smoothly through her presentation and conveyed this beautifully on each slide.

Meike was enthusiastic and responded to all questions professionally and accurately. She took the jury through the challenges of conducting research in the process industry. Such as the importance of extensive consultation and very good preparation, because the process had to be shut down if she wanted to conduct an experiment. This put considerable pressure on her research, but she said that it had not affected her negatively. In her final year at vocational college, she also took courses in Chemical Technology at Saxion University of Applied Sciences, and she is now continuing her studies at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen.

In the opinion of the committee, Meike is a true ambassador for the Gouden Vlam award.

The other two prizes were awarded to:

Demi van Dijk - ROC Rijn IJssel
Reliable Polyimide and Polyenzoxazole removal on Wafer Level Chip Scale Package Devices

Babet Segerink - ROC van Twente
Optimization of an in vitro release test method for long acting medicine
