Education and work experience
After studying chemistry at Utrecht University and obtaining my PhD (also at UU), I was faced with the choice of where to start my career in 1999. I ultimately chose DSM Research in Geleen. It was a well-considered choice, which I would like to tell you about. But that was only the beginning. Over the past 18 years, I have discovered what excites me and what I find important in a job. That is why I still enjoy working in ‘chemistry’, but I have also been able to contribute to interesting problems in other roles and companies. I prefer to work with teams (from different backgrounds and locations) on challenging sustainability issues. Currently employed by Dow Benelux in Terneuzen. Through various committees, boards, and program councils, I have been able to take a look behind the scenes at other companies and institutions.
Specialism
I also enjoy using my experience to help others on their career path. I did this at my company as a ‘people leader’ and now I enjoy doing the same at the KNCV in the region. From the south-west of the Netherlands, I can help you with job applications, career doubts and choices, switching jobs or companies, or just have a nice chat about what interests you and how you can earn a living from it. After all, it will be a long time before you can retire, right?
