Join us for two days of polymer science

The Belgian-Dutch polymer conference will be organized by Belgian Polymer Group (BPG) at the Belgian side, and KNCV-MM together with “Bond voor Materialen” from the Dutch side. The conference will be of academic level, but industrial speakers are encouraged to participate. This conference will replace the BPG annual meeting and the traditional autumn symposium organized by KNCV-MM and Bond voor Materialen. A big contribution of the presentations will come from PhD students.

With prof. dr. Michael Meier (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), dr. Sylvain Caillol (CNRS) and prof. dr. Steve Howdle (University of Nottingham) the conference features interesting keynote speakers. Furthermore several themes will be discussed during the sessions of the programme.

The conference will take place 8 and 9 October 2020 at Koningshof in Veldhoven.

The conference is now open for registration and especially PhD students are welcome to submit abstracts for oral and/or poster presentations (deadline June 1, 2020): https://www.polymercongress2020.org/

KNCV-MM HBO Poster Award

This year, the KNCV Macromolecules HBO Poster Prize will be awarded for the 3rd time during the Dutch Polymer Days in Lunteren on 17 and 18 March 2020. This prize is open to talented (alumni) students from Dutch HBO institutions, who have last year carried out eye-catching research in the field of polymers. The research can be of a chemical, physical, biomedical or technological nature.

The selection committee wants to invite employees from all HBO institutions in the Netherlands to nominate talented students. This can be done by sending the name of the suitable candidate and an internship report or graduation thesis by e-mail to vincent.voet@nhlstenden.com. The committee will select one candidate prize winner per HBO institution. The selected students then present their research project during the DPD poster session on March 17, 2020. A jury of specialists will announce the prize winner of the KNCV-MM HBO Poster Prize 2020.

KNCV-MM student challenge

KNCV Macromolecules is organizing a "student challenge" in the broad field of polymers and macromolecules. A pilot project is running with BSc and MSc students from Groningen University, Maastricht University, Hanzehogeschool Groningen, NHL Stenden and Avans Hogeschool. In 2019, local preselection rounds were organized and groups of 4-5 students per institute go to the finals, organized on January 27, 2020 at Zernike Advanced Processing in Groningen. During the finals, 5 groups (each of 4-5 students) will be defined, with each member coming from a different knowledge institute. The students will be challenged to come with a solution for a case of Teijin Aramid. After some brainstorming sessions during the day, the groups present their solution at the end of the day before a jury consisting of Bert Gebben (Teijin Aramid), Gert Boven (Sabic), Jos Winkelman (RuG). The members of the winning group receive each €100.

The Macromolecular Division is also represented during the Dutch Polymer Days 2020 on the March 16-17, 2020.

KNCV-MM has invited Prof. Renaud Nicolaÿ (ESPCI Paris-PSL - FR) as invited speaker at the Dutch Polymer Days 2020.

Besides that the HBO poster award and student challenge are organised. More information can be found below.

Furthermore, the biannual general assembly of KNCV section Macromolecules will take place this year during Dutch Polymer Days 2020, March 17 2020 from 12.30 – 13.30 h in room 13 (zaal 13), in Congrescentrum De Werelt, Westhofflaan 2, 6741 KH Lunteren.
