NVBMB prize 2023 winner Dr. Roy van der Meel, NVBMB Spring Meeting: launch of Dutch Structural Biology Platform, General Assembly (ALV), new candidate board members, and more

The 2023 NVBMB prize has been awarded to Dr. Roy van der Meel of the Eindhoven University of Technology. Roy van der Meel Focusses on developing RNA nanotherapeutics for programming of the innate immune response. His goal is to establish specific immunotherapeutic treatments for cancer and autoimmune disorders. Roy van der Meel will organize the NVBMB fall meeting about his research field. 

We are delighted to invite you to the NVBMB Spring Meeting: Structural Biology, Recent Advances.

When: Friday May 12
Where: Van Swinderen Huys, Oude Boteringestraat 19, 9712 GC Groningen

The meeting is free of charge for members of the NVBMB or KNCV. The fee for non-members is € 10,-. Registration before May 1st is required. As the number of places available is limited, it is recommended to register as soon as possible

This meeting also signifies the launch of The Dutch Structural Biology Platform, which brings together scientists in The Netherlands who share a passion for structural biology. The platform aims to enhance exchange of knowledge, sharing new ideas, and creating a sense of community. 

During the meeting, The H.G.K. Westenbrink Prize 2021 - 2022 will be handed out to  Dr. Rebecca Halbach for her thesis entitled "Beyond transposon control: piRNAs in gene regulation and embryonic development".

The H.G.K. Westenbrink prize was established by the Stichting Stimulering Biochemie Nederland (SSBN) and is awarded each year to the best PhD thesis in the area of biochemistry and molecular biology in the previous academic year.

We invite you to nominate candidates before July 15, 2023. Please note the following:

• candidates can only be nominated by their promotor or co-promotor;
• candidates have to defend at a Dutch university but need not be of Dutch nationality;
• the research should be in the broad area of the molecular life sciences

The next General Assembly (ALV) of NVBMB members will take place during the lunch break of the Spring Symposium in Groningen (see above) on May 12 (12:30-13:00h).

Ad 5. Mireille Claessens is leaving the board and several other board members are also reaching the end of their term in the coming year. The board proposes as new board members Janine Post (University of Twente), Roy van der Meel (Einhoven University of Technology), and Ingrid Dijkgraaf (Maastricht University). Other candidates for membership of the NVBMB board should send an e-mail (including a short CV) before April 22 to nvbmb@kncv.nl.
