Delft Discussion on Soft Matter Science and Technology

Soft Matter plays a major role in our everyday life and it is probably the most multifaceted domain of hard sciences. It encompasses physico-chemical functions and properties that are common to living cells and ordinary industrial materials. Solutions and understanding of a specific problem at fundamental level are often transposable or inspiring to researchers working on applied topics. This interplay of fundamental knowledge and applied challenges allows the Soft Matter community to play a major role in societal and industrial development.

It is this interplay between fundamental knowledge and societal development that motivates us to promote a series of "scientific discussions" on the fundamentals of Soft Matter in topics that are relevant to our society such as those related to health, food or energy. In view of that, we organize a one-day discussion meeting with invited speakers that have given a strong contribution to their fields and preference is given to those who are (yet) seldom interacting with the Dutch Soft Matter community. The structure of the meeting is such that it allows for the speakers to share their vision with us since at least 15 minutes per talk will be used for discussions.
